First Collaboration - Wendy & Samuel

In 2018, Wendy’s second visit to Brazil included a residency in Curitiba with students from UNESPAR, under the guidance of Professor Dr. Marila Veloso. Wendy, then serving as president of the Body-MInd Centering® Association, led a two week exploration that combined somatic study and choreographic experimentation.

Wendy Hambidge and Samuel first worked together during a residency in Brazil, where Samuel translated and performed Wendy’s solo with students at UNESPAR and at the University of São Paulo (USP). This process unfolded as both a pedagogical and artistic exchange, introducing the students to the somatic and compositional principles underlying Wendy’s work, including practices informed by Body-Mind Centering®.

What began as a translation and transmission of a solo gradually evolved into a shared creative dialogue between the two artists. The discoveries and resonances that emerged from this process later developed into a duet created and performed by Wendy and Samuel, which was subsequently presented at Pomona College in California and in Portland, Oregon.
