I am enlisting support for my long-term collaborative project titled Standing Together: Seeing and Being Seen. This work engages with social justice issues from both deeply personal and societal points of view.

You received a similar email from me around 2 years ago. I am fortunate to be able to continue my project, which integrates the somatic work of Body-Mind Centering with the creative process.

My study and teaching BMC across the world resulted in an 18 year creative hiatus. In 2017 I began to create work that focuses, in part, on my family history. A history that is in direct relationship to our country/world’s history of slavery and the insidious damage of colonialist thinking and action, which continues to this day.

This year, I am excited to report that I received another grant from the Regional Arts and Culture Council and a grant from the Ronni Lacroute Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation.  We are also supported with a residency at Dekum Street Theater.

These grants support the continuation of this body of work. Specifically, the majority of the grant funds will be used to pay artist fees and travel expenses. Jorge Samuel, will return from Brazil to continue our work with Damaris Webb who lives here in Portland. We will focus on a culmination of the work of the last 7 years (solos, duets and trios) in which we practice showing up to one another and hold space for the hard conversations through our personal interactions and love. If you are in Portland, please join us!

Here is where you come in.

Many of us are wondering how we can resist many of the dehumanizing changes occurring so rapidly in our world. Will Standing Together help to stop this wave; probably not but if we each do what we can do, using our skills and experience, it has to help. My motivation for creating this work is Social Justice. I hope it can create a stronger community in its small way, and support the artists.

To my white identifying friends and family, this is a way of stepping up.

Whether you have ancestors that engaged in oppression or not, we have all been harmed from this past and we can all benefit from our efforts to change the residua that we all live withI want to be able to embrace all humans in their diversity, and have compassion for those with whom I disagree, or do not understand.Standing Together is one way I engage in this work.

Please join me by donating to this project. Consider an amount that works for you, as little as $10 with no upper limit. All monies go directly to project costs.
